The Link Cam uses a reliable, single-axle design and gives you the largest size range per piece of any cam. Awesome on a light alpine rack when you aim to carry fewer pieces. Having one on your rack provides a certain confidence too, knowing you have a crux piece that's likely to fit when you want something in right now.
Although Link Cams aren't necessarily more difficult to place, but they do require careful thought and analysis to get a solid, reliable placement. Holding power is maximized when the direction of load is in line with cam. When placed horizontally, they should be set deep enough so the rigid part of the stem does not torque over an edge.
