This base unit pairs with a Vario Pack to make an avalanche safety flotation system. To activate, pull on the handle, and a nitrogen canister inflates a pair of airbags. They’re positioned at the back of the pack, wing style, where they won’t interfere with your ability to swim in an avalanche. With a combined volume of 170L, they may reduce the chance of burial and make you more visible if injured or partly buried.
